Horror Research: Horror FIlms

Below is a table which is taken from IMDB and shows the most popular horror genre movies of all time. The reason for studying other horror films was to gain inspiration and ideas for our own horror opening by looking at the plot, setting, first two minutes of the opening and the types of shots or effect used within the movie’s opening.

Movie Title
Rating Out of 10
1. Psycho (1960)
8.7
2. Alien (1979)
8.5
3. The Shining (1980)
8.5
4. Les Diaboliques (1955)
8.3
5. The Thing (1982)
8.2
6. Faust (1926)
8.1
7. Nosferatu (1922)
8.1
8.1
9. The Exorcist (1973)
8.1
10. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
8.0

By researching some information on the horror films above I was able to use information which would help plan for my group’s horror opening. Psycho is the highest rated movie from IMDB within the horror genre and from watching the movie and the famous shower scene it helped to understand that we didn’t need to use as much blood as the scene in the showers doesn’t. Also from watching other horror titles from the list we was able to see how they opened as we didn’t want to make the opening of our movie have a lot of action to prevent  our movie opening looking like a movie trailer.
